If i asked anybody i know why, they'd say its because they'd rather be doing other things.fred246 said:
A lot more people used to service their own cars than do now. If you ask them why it's always that they are too complicated. The drain plug is still on the bottom, the filler on the top and the filter somewhere between the two.Scrapit said:
Who stopped oil changes, like you say easy? So easy even the lowliest of dodgy garages can get it right.fred246 said:
I'll cheerfully pay someone an hour or so labour so i dont have to be bothered. Plus he'll stamp up the book and give me an invoice for work done, and an indication of any upcoming work that might need to be done.
I file all that info and then i have it for when i'm selling the car.0 -
Thats an oil change, not a servicefred246 said:

Currently working from home, as is my wife and we're both busier than ever with work.Dreambox said:This is so true, so much time to work on the car, on the house, build something new and dedicate yourself to passions
and I am very surprised when I read of people that say that they have nothing to do at home now, they stay all day on the sofa... I would never be able to be like that!! I also started doing some woodwork (never did it but always dreamed) but it doesn't come out well for now... Need some exercise, and now it's the perfect time.
Come evening time we chill out though we do schedule in some DIY around the house - usually a few hours at the weekend.
I do things to my car that i enjoy doing and i know 100% that i can do but routine maintenance such as servicing i find dull and boring.0 -
BMW have moved the dipstick and I can no longer find it, could you direct me from the sump plug?fred246 said:

On newer models it's actually inside just in front of the steering wheel452 said:

I wouldn’t know where to start. Like medicine DIY is as much knowing the limits of your ability than anything else. A mechanic wouldn’t start tinkering with the human body and I won’t tinker with my car.1

If it is a V8, the engine doesn't last long enough to do an oilchange452 said:BMW have moved the dipstick and I can no longer find it, could you direct me from the sump plug?
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I always buy cars with tried & tested engines. Better something older and more reliable than a newly developed unknown engine. My last car I avoided the ecoboost engine and now I am glad I did.0
