Hello..😀 This is my first post. I am wondering if anyone has had a refund from the Accor group. I booked a week at the end of May and obviously they are now closed indefinitely. I have called customer services and they said that all they could do was give for a voucher for another date? I would of preferred my £551 back😢. My husband is not working and I am furloughed so times are hard. Can anyone help or advise me. Thank you very much.

I'm afraid vouchers are the norm at the moment. Ask them what the terms of the voucher are, and at what point it can be converted to cash.1

I have to say my experience was completely different. I had a booking at Mercure hotel, telephoned directly to cancel and even though I had booked a non refundable rate, they agreed a refund and it has already appeared on my credit card statement1

I paid by credit card. I called Barclaycard and went online. She said I could query a transaction. I did however it stated that I could not proceed due to the fact the booking had not elapsed. My booking for was 30th May for 1 week. So I am wondering after it does elapse could I try to get a refund through them. Emailed the hotel again and they have sent a voucher.😐0

Shimrod said:Is that a hotel in the UK or France? I am in the same situation as the OP, with a hotel booked in Paris. The French government has changed the law so that hotels can give a credit/voucher and do not need to refund cash. Unfortunately, of the hotel chains, Accor has the most restrictive refund policy and you have to contact the hotel you booked with directly, and can only get a credit to be re-used at the same hotel within 18 months.

How so? My understanding is that credit card companies will not consider a S75 if a credit or voucher refund is offered.

If you are due a refund then it's a refund via the method of payment it's English Law
Think of it as if you bought something at Argos and paid for it, went to collect it and it was out of stock you wouldn't accept a voucher, you would want your money back.
The travel industry have lobbied the Government to change the law so vouchers can be classed as a refund, but the Government (so far) has refused to do this.
