Hi just after some advice please.
We’ve never had to claim UC before so I don’t know how it works. I’m self employed and not earning.

My wife is working and had a bonus last month, so as a result our UC payment is £11.
My question is, this month she will be on a basic pay, so do I have to reapply for UC or will it be sorted out next month automatically??
Hope the question makes sense.

It is recalculated every month. You do not need to reapply. As you are self employed you will need to tell UC about any business income and expenditure, your wife's earnings should be reported automatically.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

Thanks for the reply. So I just have to wait another 4 weeks to see if we get more than £11, as they will see my wife’s wages are less than this months.0

I notice you are self employed. Do you qualify for the self employed grant in June? https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-scheme

hi thanks for the info. Am I correct in assuming then, that as my wife got a £800 bonus last month and we got awarded £11 in UC, then next month ( with my wife not getting a bonus ), we will get approx £811 in UC ??
No I miss out on the self employed grant unfortunately0 -

No I miss out on the self employed grant unfortunatelyNo, it doesn't mean that. How much you're entitle to will depend on your circumstances. Put your details into a benefits calculator.Earnings received during an assessment period will always reduce your UC by 63%. If you have dependent children you will have a work allowance, which means you can earn a certain amount before deductions are made.

ok thanks again. I just assumed that if all the circumstances remained the same but we got paid less, then it would mean the entitlement to UC would increase
Not to worry, always people worse of.0 -
Of course it will increase if earnings are less. I have no idea how much you're entitled to because i don't know anything about your circumstances. use the benefit calculator.

It is likely that a bonus of £800 would have reduced you UC by about £500 but that may not be the case because it does depend on your full circumstances.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
