Obtaining residential Broadband?

I moved into a rental property on the 3rd April.  I'm told the previous tenants had broadband, maybe SKY, maybe BT, no one knows.
Initially searches left me believing that I couldn't obtain broadband during lockdown - which leaves us using a MIFI and hotspotting phones.  This is driving us all bonkers, am I missing any means of getting broadband installed that is possible?
Thank you very much, obviously I can guess the answer, but I wondered if I was missing something.

Depends upon what is required .
Sign up with xyz and post you a new router .
Work needed on home master socket  > No Open Reach will not visit .
Likewise work needed in exchange  you would not be a priority .

If the previous resident had broadband then you should be able to get broadband.
I assume there is a phone line installed? You can't get a new phone line, but as long as there's nothing wrong with the phone line then I believe a "self install" is entirely possible, i.e. your chosen provider sends you a new router and you have to plug it in to the phone line yourself.
    Simples!
Of course you should check with the provider before committing to a contract.

Probably won't work if either previous resident was with an LLU provider (eg Sky,TalkTalk)  and you want to move to an ISP using BT Wholesale or vice versa ,as it will involve work at the exchange. Currently no guarantees that Openreach will be doing jobs at the OP's local exchange

Thank you for taking the time to answer.  It backs up everything we have found - even with BT when we try to register it says that an engineer needs to attend the property and won't be doing so until after the lockdown.  As we are now three weeks into a six month contract here I will continue to battle on with hotspots and MIFI's.  It's very frustrating though.

It might be worth asking Sky and TalkTalk if they previously supplied the property and can resume supply?
