Self assessment Repayments Delay?

Does anybody know if there is a delay in repayments once you’ve filed and applied for repayment on your self assessment tax return?

It was taking up to 40 days, but may have lengthened if more people than expected filed early.
  • Usually get mine between 9 and 16 days after submission. Guess I’ll be waiting a little longer this year

Hi guys. It says on my SA account that my repayment was issued on 22/4/2020 but it's been a few days and I still haven't received it. Checked with my bank and even they said that BACS payments now work similarly to fast payments and take 24-48 hrs max to be processed. Every year I get my money the following day so rather confused this time. Any ideas?

Have you checked the bank account details on your SA return were correct?

Yes, I did. Even chatted with a SA adviser who asked me to confirm the details are correct before releasing the funds. Nothing received - already checked my account this morning too.

At least it hasn't gone astray. The latest I heard was that it could take up to 40 days to process, buy why say it's been issued if it hasn't? I suggest you contact them again.

I have just chatted with an adviser who confirmed the payment had been issued on 22nd via BACS and that the timescale is 10 working days. When I asked what the hold up could be as my bank keeps referring me back to the HMRC, I was just told I need to wait. Fair enough but never had this before.

Submitted my 19/20 return on 6th April so day after tax year end. Realised I’d made a mistake so had to wait 48 hrs before it appeared on my account do I had to change my mistake and resent it on the 8th. We had Easter that weekend and with all this I still got my rebate on 21st so 15 days total wait for me.

Did you get your money the next day into your bank account though? I submitted my tax return on 6th and it got "approved" on 22nd when the repayment was issued but i am still waiting for my money. What baffles me is where it actually is - I doubt it's my bank holding it / I have already contacted them and they can't see anything pending etc but HMRC keep saying it was issued on 22nd but can take 10 days to receive? I don't understand what that 10-day timescale actually means..

    Hi
My mistake was i forgot to enter my bank details lol.
When i fixed my mistake by entering my details on the 8th i re-submitted it again. I logged back in on the Friday 10th and my rebate of just over £2900 was showing on my tax account. I then requested a refund which i've never done before, i only did it because i was desperate for the cash flow and needed it ASAP.
Easter came and went and no money so i rang the tax people  up and was told it was approved and payment was on its way and could take up to 10 days providing there aren't extra security problems. The money was in my account 2 days later. The reason i rang was my rebates normally come within 8/9 days. Considering what's going on and the extra workload HMRC have i can't complain.
    I hope that helps.
