Yes.  Warranty terms are discretionary so if you haven't played your part they don't have to honour the warranty.

Yes.  A warranty is something manufacturers don't have to offer so when they do, they can set the terms.  If those are that you need to register the product to activate the warranty, then I'm afraid that's their policy.

  • Who did you buy the vacuum from? You may still have the right to get them to provide a resolution (repair, replace or refund (which could be a partial refund) under your statutory legal rights.

They can require you to provide a report stating that the vacuum is broke due to an inherent fault, that it was bound to fail from manufacture. This is because you have had it over 6  months, so you may be required to prove that something was inherently wrong and it has not broken due to manhandling or misuse.

Warranties are above your statutory rights and they can put in whatever caveats they want. They could require that you never use the vacuum on Thursdays lest you invalidate the warranty.

That sucks.  It would just be gathering dust.

Having looked at Vax purchase last week i can confirm reading terms and conditions regarding warranty .
Vax do require you to register the warranty for it to become effective if not buying direct from Vax.

I have had great service from Vax in the past.  I bought a vacuum from them back in about 2010, with a six year warranty.  In the following six years I got a new cylinder when ours cracked (I cracked it when taking it apart to empty it, emailed them asking to buy a replacement part and they sent one free!) and two new attachments when they acknowledged a design flaw in the originals that caused them to get jammed.  The second one of those was about five years in.  I'm still using the vacuum today and it's still going strong.
