Car so loud
Options
So Iv turned my car on and it’s so loud like a motor bike when ever I drive it it sounds ridiculously loud, I have looked at the exhaust and it seems ok and i have topped up the oil but I can’t find out the problem. Ita a fiat punto very old about 20 years old but only had 50k on the clock.

Most likely it is a hole in the exhaust somewhere. I would have suggested that the catalyst has been stolen, but on a Punto it is part of the manifold, so unlikely.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

You will need to get underneath the car to rule out the exhaust. Put on side of the car on as high a kerb as you can find then slide underneath and have a look.
Oh and open the bonnet and check around the manifold.0 -
With the car idling you should be able to determine the general area that the noise is coming from (i.e. front / middle / back). That should help you investigate closer to locate the source.0

I doubt you've thoroughly checked the exhaust. Not only is there the backbone, there's a middle section, maybe a cat and also where it joins the manifold. Any part of those could have rusted through. You need to get it on a ramp and have someone to have a proper look.0

Start the car and when it is idling put your hand firmly over the end of the exhaust. If the car keeps running then you have a hole somewhere in the exhaust system and, looking underneath, you may be able to spot it.
From your description my money is on a holed exhaust.

Or the exhaust has come away from the manifold.0

When I had one of these Puntos the flange snapped off the exhaust manifold / catalyst section where it bolts to the centre section just in front of the flexi pipe. First warning that it was going to go was a really loud deep exhaust note.
Start the car a feel for exhaust gasses escaping below the catalytic converter.
Popped it off and welded the two parts back together and it was good as new.0 -
Has your catalytic converter been nicked0

Check the flexi pipe, that's part of the exhaust. It's right under the engine, you should be able to see it if you look up under the front.Common for them to split. If the rest of the exhaust is still good you can just replace the flexi.Just get the rotten bit cut out and a new generic flexi clamped in.0
