Three mobile rpi increase

I had a text from 3 informing me that my contract will increase in May in line with rpi. I’ve been with 3 for a lot of years and last upgraded my contract in NOV 2018. I received a letter dated January 2019 welcoming me to my new contract and on the reverse it says ‘ no rpi flag 2012’ and at the bottom also says about increasing in line with rpi every May unless your on a sim only plan , which I am.
i have been in contact with 3 today via messaging service(a royal pain) and was told that because I’ve upgraded the rpi increase comes into play and he wasn’t interested in the letter I have from 3. My question is do I have a genuine grievance and should I take it further with complaints to 3 and the ombudsman? Or am I wasting my time and just suck it up?

Good evening,
Someone else should come along and hopefully provide a more insightful/helpful reply but I've found this on Three's 'Historical Price Guide' section of their website: http://www.three.co.uk/termspdf/Advanced_Plan_price_guide_250119.pdf
Changes to your Monthly Charge If you choose a monthly Advanced Plan Package, your contract with us includes the right to increase your Monthly Charge (within your Minimum Term) on an annual basis each May, by an amount up to the January Retail Price Index (‘RPI’) rate. This means that each May, your Monthly Charge will increase by an amount up to the January RPI rate (published each February) unless you agreed to a new SIM Only plan before 13th December 2018, in which case your monthly charge will stay the same. If the January RPI rate is negative, there will be no change to your Monthly Charge in the relevant year. An example of how this works can be seen on the next page.
So, to me, your plan shouldn't be subject to RPI unless Three have updated their Terms and Conditions and failed to notify you that SIM Only plans, regardless of when you signed the agreement, are also now included. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.1 -
I am on the original 321 PAYG which users have been allowed to remain on, for the time being. I noticed today that text messages are now being charged at 3p and not 2p each. I know it's a small amount but equates to a 50% increase, well above RPI.I haven't seen an anouncement from Three about this so far.0
