  • Yes, that's what you'll be offered.
They have already offered me a Refund in writing and said they will transfer it back to the cards from which they took the payments, how can they now change it to RCNs??

Wait and see if they actually do, but I suspect they will.  Have a look at other threads on here.  Many promised refunds have turned into RCNs.

Put it simply they have decided to break the law.
Currently they have a legal duty to pay a cash refund in 14 days.
Understandable that this is impossible atm, but no excuse to own offer you vouchers.

We cancelled our holiday on 22nd March, were told 28 days for a refund.
I have a cancellation invoice from them where it states

    Total Cancellation Charge £ 525.00
Amount Paid - received with thanks £ 3,168.31
    Balance Due - £ 2,643.31

We chose to lose our deposit as there's no way we can now go in September/October, wifes self employed, not getting anything at the moment, was going to be a holiday of a lifetime.  Balance wasn't due until June, and we can cancel anytime before and just lose our deposits. (another 2k was due)

We also  need that money to live off at the moment until the goverment scheme kicks in which is still a while away

The way things are going, soon we are all going to be victims of something or other.

    Who will we blame then?

    Yes
Cancelled a day before the lockdown started for a few reasons

    1) I have numerous health problems, we chose that time of year as it was the least crowded,  in the proceeding two days,  two of our friends also due to be going to Disneyworld in the next few weeks had their holiday moved to that time, so if its OK to go then (which I doubt) , Disneyworld will be packed (I can't stand for long etc)

    2) We still had another 2K to pay  (I say we, my adult son is part of this too) and if my wife can't work, have no way of paying it, or having any spending money.

    3) We doubt the world will be back to normal then anyway, and rather than fight with insurance companies to get the full amount back, we deiced to simply lose the £175 deposit each and get the money back so that should my wife be unable to work (which turned out to be the next day) we will have finances to live off.   Holiday insurance wasn't cheap due to my health issues, so by cancelling that, we effectively only lost 2 deposits.

    4) We did enquire about the cost should we decide to move it forward a year (a few days before knowing about the lockdown),  and the difference in price was nearly double that of loosing all 3 deposits

    5) This was a special holiday for me, I have been through years of hell, it was a one off holiday of a lifetime for me.    No point my family spending all this money when things are obviously not going to be completely back to normal by then

While my wife will get money in June from the governments self employment scheme,   at the moment, like many others,  she isn't earning a penny, so having our part of whats already been paid, would really help us out.

  • Useless it's by Direct debt I think your only option is to wait. (I stand to be corrected)
AFAIK  banks can't recall money unless there has been an error (eg it's  paid  into the wrong account )
