Virgin Holidays day 34 after cancellation and still no sign of refund in my bank

    What do you mean about being entitled to the 3000 back,is this in the event of virgin cancelling the holiday.surely if the customer cancels they are out of pocket for all the monies they have paid as they haven’t fulfilled their part of contract.

    That's precisely why I said it depends on his contract and that he should read it.  And why I said I only suspect what his liability is. I haven't read his contract.

  • mark 1965 - the full payment was/is due on 24/04/2020 the extra £3000 is just a way of spreading the cost  as we booked it over 12 months ago it is definitely not the deposit. In the ensuing time since my last post I have discovered a tweet from VH explaining that as they have not responded to many requests for changes in dates they are waiving the deadline to pay the balance and will discuss our options when they eventually catch up with us - I will keep the forum updated
  • I have a question Virgin related. Please.
    I was due to fly to florida with my family at the end of April, booked through Virging Holidays. We have requested a refund via an option that was included as a link on an email they sent. I have tried to call them twice, and after waiting 4 hours on hold, twice, it cuts you off.
    So, what concerns me is them going bust and me losing around £5000 in the time it takes them to refund (while probably deliberately delaying things).  My understanding is that I will be covered 100% by ATOL, for flights disney tickets, hotel etc etc???
    So as I also understand if I cancel my holiday insurance now, for the holiday I am not going on I will probably get a refund on it. Is this a bad idea? It includes if the company goes under but I am never going to enact that am I?

    If Virgin Holidays ceases to trade the ATOL scheme will pay back the cost of all the items shown on your ATOL Certificate. That might include all the costs you mention but if they were bought separately at a different time, they may not be protected by ATOL. In that case, they ought to be protected by ABTA....

    My ATOL certificate (which luckily I downloaded when available) as it's been removed from the my booking section on the virgin website says the "package holiday" is protected.  Fortunately I think that covers my flight, hotels, park tickets, car hire etc all booked in one go with virgin.

    I did book some other tickets separately, fortunately I got a full refund from universal, but had to take a 20% cut on the sea world one's.
    Of course, I've not seen any money yet but that's as instructed.

    Back to the original point, it seems safe for me to at least try and get a refund on my insurance then.

    Unless anyone else has an opinion to the contrary.

    Any legal action will fail to get you cash, as will attempting a section 75 claim on your credit card or claiming on travel insurance as you have been given a voucher.

    As others have said it's taking ages due to the sheer scale of it and the severely reduced staffing levels
    Hi there, can you please clarify this for our situation?

    Our Holiday to Disney was cancelled by Virgin (flights, hotel, tickets etc.) on the 14th of March. We were told that we will get a full refund and received a cancellation invoice too. They initially told us it will take 90 days. Then they said 40 days, then they said 45 days... it has been 40 days now, still no refund.

    Are you saying they might now actually not give us a refund at all but will try to give us these RCN? I do not want RCN, in fact their Customer Service has been so shocking I will never ever book a Holiday with Virgin ever again, I just want the money back!

    As far as i know yes.  But u will need to just be patient in getting the money back as they are inundated.  Its not ideal but thats the reality.
