I should think it is a bit difficult for a blind person to mow a lawn.

Disgusted withe comments on this forum. Shame you clearly have nothing better to do

The issue is that most are doing as they're told (i.e. not buying lawnmowers) and therefore have nothing better to do. Can't imagine your reason holding up by any stretch of the imagination - if it's that essential then the scissors suggestion is the way forward

So now we have had our consumer rights removed. Will never buy another item from argos
    >>>

    CORONAVIRUS – SERVICE UPDATE

Whilst our standalone stores are closed, we’ve extended our returns period for goods eligible for our 30 day returns promise.

Any purchases made from 1 March, can be returned up to 30 days after our stores reopen. In line with our returns policy, these products will need to be unopened, unused and in their original packaging, with proof of purchase.

Our Argos in Sainsbury’s stores are still open for collection of essential, pre-paid online orders. We’re sorry, but these stores cannot accept returns at this time. Our returns collection service is also unavailable during this time.

Very clear information from Argos. And fully displayed when you pick up the goods.

So your CONSUMER RIGHTS are fully intact and actually ENHANCED.

What did you do run over the cable? 👀

I'm genuinely curious as to under what circumstances a lawnmower is an essential purchase.
Indeed ... haven't people heard of scissors? ;):D

(Might be something to keep the kids busy). :)
Or an aged mum whose keeping herself busy whilst self isolating after her existing lawnmower decided to stop working......

They have no idea if you are infected or a carrier.

I wouldn't , as a responsible employer, be risking my van drivers health collecting possibly contaminated return items.

The only issue with that arguement is that the OP has no idea if any argos or sainsbury staff are a carrier. If it's too risky to accept faulty returns, then surely it's too risky to be sending goods in the first place.

Also, strictly speaking, if the OP has not agreed to return reject goods then their only obligation is to make them available for collection. However, be aware the timeframe for them refunding is 14 days from when they agree you're due the refund. While the retailer should not delay this unduely, the current circumstances may mean its not an undue delay.
