in Credit cards
I was just looking over my finances and was going back to when I got a credit card from my bank. Long story short, I went in to upgrade my bank account that gave me extras that I would use while I was there the advisor started going on about their credit cards. I never ever thought about getting one but he said well if you want a new sofa, holiday etc... you can just put it on this card. I was only 19 at the time earning a very small wage I felt a bit pressured to get one so I got one and being young I maxed it out quickly. I feel like I was possibly mis sold/pressured would I be eligible to claim for anything? I'm not bothered if I'm not but if I can I'll happily take it. I want to prove a bit of a point and that it doesn't happen to somebody else as I really didn't understand how credit works back then and left me in a bit of trouble a few years back

No, you weren't mis sold anything.
You just mis used your credit card, but as long as you've learned from it, that should be reward enough.6 -
I'm not sure how you getting compensated would result in it never happening to someone else. Anyway I think the answer is no.0

Agree - not mis-sold but you mis-managed it.0

Even if you were pressured to take it out, it was your choice to use it.Save £12k in 2019 #363

Just to add support to previous answers - mis-sold - no - mismanaged - yes. You've learnt a life lesson. You can't blame others for your own actions. Many thousands of people have credit cards, and manage them (even from the age of 18) very well. There are some that go crazy and max them out thinking it's free money, but it soon bites them on the behind. Unless the advisor who 'started going on about credit cards' said something factually incorrect, or the bank made you sign something that said 'it was free money - please spend as you like - we won't want it back', and you have evidence to support it, you'll not have any successful claim against anyone. (So in other words - you don't have a claim)Did you expect it to be free money?2

While I'd agree with the above posters that there is such a thing as irresponsible borrowing as well as irresponsible lending, it may be worth investigating the latter to ascertain whether due process was followed when you were being offered the credit facility. However, if this all happened ages ago, it's probably moot as any complaint would probably be timebarred, and the regulatory environment would have been different....

Thanks.
I'm not effected by it now as it was over 10 years ago. But I just remembered how it was sold to me as I would of never taken one out and thought surely it cant be allowed and I was only earning around £500 a month and gave a 2k limit. I thought I might not be able to claim but worth asking 😊0 -
