The safest solution (if you had access to another PC) would have been to create a fresh installer (on a USB pendrive) and clean-install Windows again. In fact I'd still recommend that you do this. (If the PC is currently licensed/activated) then it should remain licensed when reinstall Windows, as the activation is keyed to the motherboard so Microsoft's activation server will recognise it).
I'm aware the key is on the motherboard but it's in Russian and has no other language pack available on the version installed.
The key is not in any language, as far as I am aware.
Exactly. Simply download the US/UK version of W10 and then install that. I'd be amazed if the fresh installation didn't activate.

You should be able to add language packs to your current installation, but given the issues you've had I'd be minded to wipe and clean install. That way there can't be any remnants of what the previous person put on the machine. In fact you could even replace the HDD (with an SSD if necessary) and remove any possibility of there being any "hack" remaining on your PC.
  • There still trying to get into this ebay account with no success.

No but when I try to change the language it only gives me Russian as an option?
When you use the Windows 10 media creator, it will default to English. Always rebuild new laptops you buy second hand.
