I don't think 'helper' is talking about a lay rep.  Just a McKenzie friend situation I think.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

OK, same as in a court room then.

Not quite. In a face to face court hearing, the lay rep can just turn up on the day.

But with a video or telephone hearing, the court needs to be notified in advance, so that they have the lay rep's contact details, and can email him/her the joining instructions and link for the hearing.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

Noted, I had seen on some other judge's orders posted here that you had to supply contact details but not that it required the completing of a form.

Completing a form is much better, as you can ensure the full and correct details are captured
  • Telephone hearing on Wednesday regarding a VCS PCN. Call dropped due to bad weather. I emailed several times as I had data. Judge said I had left the hearing and charged me £180 for VCS costs. And this was an application I had made to set aside a CCJ with £150 costs made 2 weeks before in my absence due to loss of memory (got the doctors note) which I presume still stands? Phoned the court but they cannot tell me what to do. CAB are not replying due to covid-19. Cannot get a free half hour with a solicitor until the end of August due to covid-19 but am expected to pay by 19th August. Don't know what to do?

Can you start a new thread, giving details of your specific case rather then posting on a discussion thread, you'll get better and bespoke advice that way.

Not sure why you're asking a parking forum technical 'what ifs' about the UK court system?  Ask LegalBeagles if it's an actual situation - but if it's simply hypothetical .......
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
