am i eligible for furlough

so the last few months have been a nightmare i was made redundant towards the end of feb and i have contacted that company and they are not interested, said its against business interests to re-employ people during this pandemic, awesome.

so anyways i started a new job and my first day of work was on the 3rd of march, i had signed up for the contract the week before hand at the end of feb, everyone was sent home and told to work from home, the office is closed, i was exempt as because i am new apparently they wont allow us to work from home and wouldnt offer any pay or help, just said when all this blows over they would like to offer me a position still but due to business requirements ( hear that alot lately) they cant help with pay, work or anything else.

i queried the initial furlough and they said no, because of my first day in the office i would not be eligible .

yesterday i received news that the dates had changed for furlough, i started on the 3rd, i get paid weekly, a week in hand so my first date i received money would of been the 13th of march, so does this make me eligible im a bit confused about it all.

You will need to speak to your employer again because it's entirely their decision whether they furlough you or not.
  • i get that i would need to speak to my emplyer either way, but am i eligible for it as there seems to be some confusion.

If you were on the payroll between 28th Feb - 19 March then yes.
  • so in regards to what iv posted above starting on the 2nd as my first actual date in office, and paid by the 13th just to be clear then that fits the criteria.

Yes, that's what i advised. It's still up to your employer to make that decision and they could still refuse.
  • they arent refusing, just not making life any easier and literally doing no leg work for it whatsoever, to be honest i dont think they actually know that the government changed things until i mentioned it.
  • that be why, thanks for the confirmation though , hopefully i get somewhere with it.
  • forwarded all the information on, refusing to help or apply for furlough, disgusting if you ask me should be mandatory if in employment.
  • My employer is refusing to furlough as the business could not support the holiday pay accrued during this lockdown. They are instead looking at laying me off and bringing me back as self employed when this blows over. I have worked there for just over 12 months...... I will probably lose my house if they go down this route and they know it. (Taxi firm) any help ideas or suggestions please.
