When to start travel insurance or section 75 claim?

I am due a refund for a cancelled holiday but I have just been offered vouchers but I want a cash refund.
Should I wait until after the holiday date, 6th May 2020, before I contact my credit card company or even my travel insurance or should I contact them now?

You can contact them now, but be aware that neither may pay out, due to the alternative being offered.1

Not true you dont have to accept vouchers if it is a package holiday ie atol protected.
Is it?0 -

Which company offered vouchers ?
Post 2 is correct , despite the existing rules saying 14 days for refunds this is being ignored and industry standard is vouchers for future travel .
Credit card company will refuse if vouchers are offered or bounce you off to travel insurance . Travel insurance company will refuse either as covid19 or as vouchers offeredEx forum ambassador

The question is no longer relevant as I got a refund back to my credit card.1

aoh101 said:Helen, which credit card company was this? I wonder how your claim got around their usual argument that a voucher is a suitable alternative.
Always good to know what credit cards are doing the best.
Tandem had no issue with my claim. but it's still ongoing.
Some credit card companies are saying they can't claim under S75, this is totally wrong, everyone is legally entitled to claim.
They might reject the claim (rightly or wrongly) but they can not stop you from claiming.

Just keep an eye that the company do not dispute the refund and claim it back(there is a time limit they can do that in).0

There is no set time limit on claims.
But if someone feels that they are dragging their feet they can complain, then they have 8 weeks to deal with it.
It's the same as if they reject it, you can complaint against the rejection and they have 8 weeks look at it again.
If after that you aren't happy with their decision you ask for a "letter of deadlock "
Then you go to the Financial Ombudsman Service (free) who will make the final ruling (their ruling tends to be fairer than a court).
It's why I advise people to claim via S75 as it cost's nothing as you have more chance of winning
If you go though the retailer and it drags out, it cost a person money to take them to court (normally refunded if you win)
You can do both at the same time, as long as you don't keep both if each party pays up.
