Tried that with Eurostar just an email denying it. Have sent am email with suggestions from this thread. Thanks all.
  • I have just had my Eurostar direct trains to Avignon for August cancelled, which is pretty galling given that travel restrictions are about to be lifted. They suggest rebooking indirect trains i.e. via Paris. I might have been open to this but for the dates I need the prices are now nearly double what I originally paid adding the best part of £400 to the costs. Surely as it is Eurostar’s cancellation, they should be responsible for ensuring that my journeys are completed by these alternative means if I want and they should meet the difference?
I booked direct on their website in early January long before Corona virus had become a known issue and if I don’t go then I want a full refund not a voucher because I cannot be sure that I will want to buy Eurostar tickets to this value in the next year, particularly as they have cancelled direct trains for next year too. Does anyone know if they are still making it very difficult to get refunds and if so what other avenues there are to get redress? There will be quite a few other people in the same boat. Thanks

No, you are not entitled to a re-routing at the original price. They have given you more than adequate warning of cancellation (August), and you can request a full refund accordingly. If thee is an unacceptable delay, do a chargeback or S75 claim on your card, in that order.
I suggest you examine indirect trains changing at Lille, rather than Paris: this is much simpler, as it's just a platform change Eurostar to SNCF, rather than a station change via the metro as at Paris. However, Lille-Marseille services are less frequent than those from Paris.
