What will happen when 12 weeks is up? Will it continue??

It looks likely this will roll on for a lot longer than the 12 weeks from when it started, what is likely to happen will the government keep the scheme rolling until we are individually able to return??

It may continue or they may bring out a different scheme. Nobody knows yet, the government probably do not know yet either.

At the moment the furlough scheme runs until the end of June and that is all that anybody knows.  What happens after that is yet to be announced (or decided) by the Government.  Given the costs, the furlough scheme cannot run forever.

I wonder what they will do then if people cannot return and they have had the full allowance. I think it will carry on for 12 months the rate it is going at

That's a question that no one can answer right now. Some people are already returning to work and furlough is ending for those. If this happens then of course you'll have no option to return if you want to get paid. Unless you've received the NHS letter and you're shielding for 12 weeks and then you can claim SSP.

At a potential cost of £40 billion for 3 months. Would seem unlikely.

Going off some threads on here some people would be more than happy sitting at home doing nothing on 80% for 12 months and are horrified when their employers are asking them back after three weeks.
Or be surprised when there's no job to return to.

It does seem that way it must be great to be sat at home not working and still being paid. I am one of those that fall in the gap and am at home getting nothing, if thats not making it worrying times on it its own there is also that worry what is going to happen when people do start going back to work as I cannot see the job market picking up for a good year so I could be here for a long time no work no money, so think your self lucky to get anything for any time even if short and take some time to consider the people that either still have to go to work every day or have no job and get nothing paid to them from the government to help.

Yes , must be a great for some. All people keep saying to me is  '' We are  all in the same boat '' .No we are not.!!!
For some the boat is carrying on as normal. For others they are battling to keep the boat afloat.
And for some the boat has sunk.
All my work cancelled in exhibitions probably for the rest of the year.
