This is a venue I spoke about here some weeks ago, which I am more than happy to name as Bijou weddings. There are many many people in this situation.
How do you know it is the same venue? (The T&Cs shown could easily be copied across several similar businesses/venues).
Seaborne Ferries style, where their terms and conditions were proven to be copied from a pizza takeaway.....

Whilst it could be a complete coincidence, I’m in communication with the person who made the original post.

That person said they were going to get legal advice nearly three weeks ago. Did they?🙂
  • Hi Holly. Sadly I’m not in a position to say much, other than the fact that our personal insurers Need their consent required before we can actively engage with solicitors- and the insurers are a bit busy at the moment!

Keep all documentation received from them about the cancellation. Best is to communicate via e-mail if possible or if by phone, send an email 'to clarify my understanding of our recent conversation with x' asking them to come back if 'you misunderstood anything from the conversation'
It will make things eadier further down the line.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.

    That doesn't answer my question.🙃
  • Hi Holly, thanks for the message.
I’ve read my response again and am comfortable it was pretty clear - so will politely decline to word it differently. Thanks for your help!

    Ok . I think I understand
  • I’m pleased to let you know that the actions of our wedding venue company Bijou, will be laid bare in the telegraph and on the BBC in the coming days. Massive gratitude to both for helping when so many couples had nowhere else to turn.

At a time when compassion and solidarity is needed most, at a time when so many are in strife and others risking their lives to help, this company have tried to make use of deliberate contractual ambiguity in order to turn full profits at the expense of customers for an event they did not hold. For others they are ‘negotiating’ postponement dates with couples without factoring in like for like days nor entertaining any discussion about contracted fees. It is a complete injustice. Thank goodness the wider industry has been more sympathetic.

Incidentally - my own insurers have rejected my insurance claim as they believe the venue cancellation ‘arises from government order’ even though my understanding of the word ‘from’ means after, and their cancellation was before. Thanks to them too for being incredibly unsupportive. I’m still looking at our rights on that front.
