Wedding insurance

Hi,
Our wedding was cancelled by our venue on the day the lockdown was announced and are charging us for 80% of the initial quoted wedding costs as a cancellation fee so we need to claim on our insurance for our money back. Has anyone had any luck with claims with Debenhams wedding insurance?

I’ve submitted our claim but they’ve still not logged it yet when I spoke to them yesterday after being on hold for nearly 3 hours.

Thanks

  • How can they charge you a cancellation fee when you didn't cancel, they did?

They are blagging you, trying to get money from your insurance fraudulently.

As this is a consumer rights issue you might get more replies if you post in the consumer rights sub forum

They've fooled you.  No need for insurance, they owe you a full refund themselves.

Ditto the above ... if they cancelled then they are in breach of contract so they owe you a full refund.
  •  This is the cancellation clause in our contract and they are sticking with this is our responsibility to claim with insurers for the lost money.

If you cancel, yes. Not if they cancel.

The way I read that clause is that it relates to the consumer making a cancellation, which is not the position here. It doesn't matter what their T&Cs say, they cannot waive their legal obligations where they are in breach of contract.
  • This is a venue I spoke about here some weeks ago, which I am more than happy to name as Bijou weddings. There are many many people in this situation.
  • How did you pay for the booking?

How do you know it is the same venue? (The T&Cs shown could easily be copied across several similar businesses/venues).
