I definitely get the attraction of working from home as it appeals to me too (although not possible in my role).  I would say though, that just because you're working at home, doesn't always make you more 'present' for your children.
DH works from home, has done since start of covid, and I think he's more distracted tbh.  Whereas I go out and work 3 days... when I get home, I've missed the children and in the evenings and the other 4 days I do loads with them.  He's almost 'I see them all day, everyday anyway'... I guess it's the quality v quantity conundrum :D
Hope you find something that appeals and fits around your family :)

Thanks for commenting.  I actually loved working from home during the pandemic when my children were at school.  I felt organised and efficient and I don't feel like that now.  I can imagine it would be different if ours were teenagers. but we would still pay for some level of childcare as we do now.

I've had a very rubbish day today at school.  I am getting very tired of teenagers telling me I am not handling things well and accusing me of being on one person's side over their's when actually I do not really care and am not paying attention when they talk about their petty gripes.

I was very close to telling a teenager where to go today so I am going to call in sick tomorrow and look for a new job.

I think I want to do a really good job of working from home coordinating something to do with education with some work in an office somewhere, where I can manage my own time and workload and feedback is actually encouraged rather than frowned upon.  I am very done with where I work and know that I deserve better.

  • Sounds like teenagers, I live with 3 and feeling that life is unfair is pretty much their MO.  Would love to tell them where to go sometimes and am pretty sure that my facial expressions do sometimes :D
It's good that you're narrowing down what you want from a job, it'll help you in your search

I did a while ago but those sort of jobs are rare and they use a lot of volunteers these days that have the passion.  But thanks for the idea!

It’s giving me an idea of what to expect from mine when they get to that age!  My daughter is going to be tricky that’s for sure!

  • Afternoon all!

just dethawing on the sofa after the dog and I got caught in a storm earlier. I had to pick him up and carry him he was so scared and cold.

Came back to discover I have made about £45 on bay of e! Before fees this is. I might be able to make a little more from crafty posting. I’m going to packaging it up tonight to post it tomorrow.

I have also decided on my walk to start making jewellery again in the evenings now that I know I’m not going to be studying anymore. Maybe I can make some decent pieces to sell this summer.

I have the equipment and loads of beads. I might need to buy a few fastenings but I will have a look later.  I think being creative will give me something to use my brain on and something to look forward to doing after a rubbish day of teenagers!

  • It's been a cold wet one today, hope you have defrosted and well done on the ebay sales.
  • Evening all

So with fees I made £22 on bay of e.  Have used it to pay off DD's school shoes from a few weeks back since it was mostly kids clothes that I sold.

I have relisted the items I didn't sell just to see if they shift this week.  I've just got my phone to send off this week - £36 then should be winging its way to me.

Husband's hair cut was £12 less than he thought it would be so I have slushed that money towards my credit card since it is unexpected bringing it to £1014.

Husband has also checked his nutmeg account and lost money on his stocks and shares ISA - about £450.  It does go up and down but a bit annoying as we were nearly at £2k again.  It will rise again.

All the pots look good.  Oil pot is one payday away from being full which is good as just ordered half a tank more.  Then we will be up to date and I can pay the next budgeted amount off the credit card - this will be March payday.

I'm going to aim to do the next 2 food shops at A l d i to keep costs down.  We have £316 left until the end of the month and 2 shops to go with also a little break at half term to contend with but I want some change from this to go towards debt. I'm going to do some batch cooking at half term to make the week after a little easier and then husband gets paid on the Friday 25th.

It is going to be hard to keep away from the expensive grocery store when we are on our little break!  Must do lots of planning to avoid this as I know what husband is like!

  • Been pondering job ideas a bit further... How about working for OFSTED?  Or one of the exam boards, something like that.  Or setting up a tutoring business.  Or working at your local authority in the education dept (if that's a thing?)
