Vet prescription

My vet charges me £18 for a 6 month prescription and there’s two different tablets on it.0

Sadly it's up to the vet. Even within a same practice, they seem to do what they want. My usual vet is great, always gives me as much as possible per script. When he was on holiday and needed a script, they gave me the bare minimum even though they could see the usual script on the computer!

Just read your statement about Vets charges. I have to administer apoquel, 1 tablet every day for a skin condition. I have to pay £51 now for a WhatsApp consultation which includes my prescription but for the next two months have to pay £17 per prescription. It’s cheaper for me to get the £17 perscription and purchase from Animed Direct, I find this unbelievable. The product is fine for the dog as prescribed and obviously if there was any change I’d take her straight back. She’s been on this now for a year. Any additional advice would be helpful?

What advice are you after?
Your vet is required to only prescribe for an animal under his care. To comply with this he must see the animal at regular intervals. He decides what that is- some conditions may require 3 monthly visits, some 6 monthly visits. This is the same requirement your GP has if prescribing ongoing medicine.
A whatsapp consultation is required for his and yours safety at the moment as advised by the RCVS. If it was necessary arrangements would be made to see your dog. You are getting the same expertise as if you were attending the surgery so the normal consultation fee applies.
It is cheaper to buy medicines online because online suppliers do not do any prescribing so do not need to spend years and a lot of money training to be a vet.
They do not have the expense of running a practice.
They can buy goods in bulk- as supermarkets do so can sell cheaper than the corner shop- but your vet cannot ,as drugs have a shelf so he cannot buy more than he expects to use over a set period. He is required to buy from specific suppliers so cannot shop around for the cheapest supplier.0 -
My cat has been prescribed Amodip for hypertension. She was initally seen and medicated for 0.625mg daily for two weeks and then re-checked. Her BP came down but not enough. So, vet increased meds to 1.25mg daily and wants to re-check in 4 weeks time. Vet offered me a prescription for 3 months so I could obtain elsewhere. Does you cat like the chewable version? Are they like a treat?
ThanksRegards,
