Of course your previous employer can furlough you but they don't have to do this. You'll need to speak to them. If not then providing you don't have savings/capital over £16,000 then use a benefits calculator to check entitlement for Universal Credit.

I think OP left the previous employment too early to be rehired and furloughed.poppy12345 said:Of course your previous employer can furlough you but they don't have to do this. Your employer can agree to re-employ you and place you on furlough. They’ll still be able to claim a grant to cover 80% of your regular wages, up to a monthly cap of £2,500 if you were on your employer’s PAYE payroll on 28 February 2020."

Yes I think that too would be correct, it would be up to the most recent employer who by the sounds of it are reluctant to do so.I think OP left the previous employment too early to be rehired and furloughed."If you were made redundant or stopped working for your employer after 28 February 2020

Thanks. Re-employ is what i meant, just forgot to add the words.

I left on the 5th but was paid on 25th. So not sure if I would have been on the payroll on 28th. It’s a long shot and would rather have been placed on Furlough by my more recent employer, but that won’t happen.0

But he left his old employment before 28 February 2020, so won't have been on their payroll on that date.poppy12345 said:

My final pay from my old job was 25th Feb and first pay from new job was 29th. (Just logged into HMRC online to check). I’m not sure what exactly determines if you were on PAYE on 28th?0

They could re-employ you if they still wanted you. I do not think you can claim for furlough as you left too early. At the start of February we barely had any cases and the ones we did have had come from abroad.
Also if you return to your old company you might find they want the settlement package back.0 -
With regard to your old job, what was the date on your P45? I suspect it will be 25 February. If so, you cannot be furloughed by them, even if they rehired you.
With regard to your new job, if your first pay date was 29 February, they will have completed the FPS for you at some time between 26 and 29 February inclusive (it seems likely that the date of a new employee's first FPS will be used for the test as to whether they were on the payroll at 28 February 2020). 29 February (a Saturday) would be too late.
There are some technical issues around redundancy and continuity of employment, and I don't think you can be asked to return redundancy pay. I can't see why your old employer would rehire you if they can't furlough you.0 -
The leaving date on my P45 from my original Employer is 4th February 2020. So I guess this means that I am not able to be put on Furlough by them? Shame, as thought this may have been my lightbulb moment last night.Jeremy535897 said:With regard to your old job, what was the date on your P45? I suspect it will be 25 February. Unfortunately it's not worth discussing furlough from the most recent employer, it simply won't happen.0
