Flybe and Expedia

Hi,
I wonder if someone can please advise - we like many other have been affected by the Flybe collapse and struggling to reclaim the costs of our flights.
In January 2020 we booked the flights for a family holiday to the states though Expedia. The flights were; two internal Flybe flights to and from London Heathrow, and two Virgin Atlantic flights to the states and back - I paid in one lump sum price for all flights.
When Flybe went into administration I looked to claim back off my credit card however, my problem is I do not know, and Expedia will not tell me (or do not know) the breakdown costs for the Flybe flight for me to claim back.
I have since contacted Virgin Atlantic who have admitted they have received 100% of the money paid to Expedia - so at some point they would have paid Flybe to fly us internally. Unfortunately Virgin suggest they are unaware of the internal flight cost would be and the cynic in me says ultimately its not in their interests to inform me as they are able to keep around £800 for doing nothing - not that I am claiming directly from them.
I wonder if anyone can advise whether you know whether it is possible for Expedia to give me a breakdown of costs? Or form another source?
Like many I'm sure I'll have to get used to the fact that it may just not happen however, to us its not a insignificant amount of money that we can just write off.
Thanks in advance

Are Virgin able to give you alternate flights for the internal legs or are you going to be commencing the travel at Heathrow
It sounds like this is a VS codeshare ticket. Virgin may well price this as XXX-USA and not as XXX-LHR + LHR-USA so it will not be a clear breakdown (sometimes adding a domestic leg can actually bring the overall cost down)0 -
Thanks for the response. No Virgin suggest it is not their responsibility for the internal flight which I understand. You are correct, it is classed as an XXX-USA rather than individual flights, hence no breakdown.
Thanks again...0 -
Hi
We are in exactly the same position as you. Currently the only option Expedia are offering us is cancellation of all 4 legs of our journey with no refund! Totally unacceptable! Interested to know if you have made any further progress.

Due to fly July 10

I very much doubt the US ban on passengers from the UK will be lifted by then so Virgin will cancel and you should get a refund of the whole amount. Currently, Virgin Atlantic claim refunds will take 100 days but if you read today's Sunday Telegraph, Branson is threatening to push the airline into administration at the end of May if the government do not lend half billion, in which case you can make a claim against the card you used. Either way, problem solved! (at least for the flight costs)0

I would agree with Alan so the likelihood is you will receive a refund/credit on the (to be) cancelled flights. Not perhaps the outcome that is ideal but it gets you around the concerns with the Flybe refund issue.
If a package or flights plus hotel type arrangement booked via Expedia you should have an ATOL certificate and financial protections.
If flight-only, start hoping SRB’s sob story and threat gets money from somewhere. Just Giving anyone?0 -
Thanks for the responses. We were due to fly mid July and in this 'new world' a lot can happened between now and then.
I know we are in an 'unprecedented' situation right now but I didn't really appreciate you lose by booking with Expedia and not direct with the airline. Yes, you save a few hundred pounds but when a problem arises they really do not want to help and it wasn't that I was looking for money - I just wanted a price to claim back from the credit card.
Anyway, thanks all...
