    it was the actual switch that needed replacing rather than the shower or fuse. We had two electricians look at it and neither had seen it before
    It's an extremely common cause of failure, particularly with cheap pullcords. The cable and switch are likely burned to a dangerous degree.

    I'd question Electricians who have never come across this before.

    The pull cord is an isolator and can be left on all the time. The shower can be controlled by its own controls and switch.

    Thanks for replies fellow forum members. I'll see if I can get a sparky out but with covid 19, don't think anyone will want to come out. The other option would be to get a shower adapter so can use hot water from bath tap (gas central heating) but can't see one that'll fit a single square tap......told daughter she'd need to use buckets and a jug ........she's staying with mates now.
    Tradesmen are still allowed to work, so long as you stick to social distancing in the property.
