Shower Stopped Working

My daughter always has 20/25 min showers at high temp. She's an essential worker. Was concerned that something would eventually burn out - shower stopped working. I've checked the fuse box and replaced the fuse but there's still no power getting to the shower pull cord (no light in red window bit). Do you think it's the shower that's kaput or issue with the power cable?

More likely to be the shower unit, but only testing will tell.

No red light in the switch means either faulty switch or no power coming to it.

If there isn't any power going to the pull switch, then it won't be the shower itself.  Because there isn't any power getting to that any more.
It could be a burned out connection somewhere.  Possibly at the switch - that's not unknown.  Showers take a huge current when they are running.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

a high current circuit like a shower should only really be fixed by an electrician. If you introduce bad joint things can get pretty bad pretty quick at 40 amps

    Have you checked the fuse?
  • We had similar once, I think it was the actual switch that needed replacing rather than the shower or fuse. We had two electricians look at it and neither had seen it before and it didn't show up on any of their testing.
I also take showers similar to your Daughter

  • Thanks for replies fellow forum members. I'll see if I can get a sparky out but with covid 19, don't think anyone will want to come out. The other option would be to get a shower adapter so can use hot water from bath tap (gas central heating) but can't see one that'll fit a single square tap......told daughter she'd need to use buckets and a jug ........she's staying with mates now.

I had the same problem a while ago, the pull switch was the problem. My brother bought a new one and fitted it and it worked again. He is competent at this sort of thing. He bought it from screwfix who are doing click and collect.
We could turn the shower on, water ran but didnt heat up. The light didnt come on in the pull switch at all.

Personally, I hardly ever use the pull switch. My shower is permanently ON.

Those pull switches always seem to be the weak link, a big clunky wall switch outside the bathroom is always a better option.
