refund for item not arrived

I recently bought an item on ebay. they provided a tracking number which Royal Mail dont recognise. I contacted the seller but no response and when I try to report it as item not received I am just going round in circles. Has anyone got any advice please. I have never had an item not received with no response from the seller before. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried contacting Ebay Customer Services? They are the people who can help you.       

Tracking number might not be recognised by Ebay's system, have you tried it on Royal Mail's website?

Some services dont track until at the point of delivery.
You say recent,so whats the time scale?

Can you perhaps explain briefly what the issue was and how it was sorted, as if there is a glitch on eBay it is worth noting in case it affects others.

Hello Soolin I think the problem was I tried to open the case on the day it should have arrived (long after the post had been delivered) The only reason I was so keen to open the case  was that the tracking number wasnt recognised by RM and although I mesaged the seller I received no contact. Their feedback  has also shown a a lot of no delivery complaints in the last few days for the same item I ordered. I am suspicious by nature and have a feeling the item was a scam so wanted to get case in asap. The case opened quite happily this morning so now just waiting although not hopeful I will hear from them so will need to escalate.

Well you havent 'sorted' anything then.
you opened a case.
You are going by eBays delivery estimates during a pandemic. Ebays delivery estimates are questionable at the best of times.......

There are sellers on various forums worrying about huge delays in their deliveries , I really wouldn’t be trying to open an INR within a few days of delivery estimates, let alone during the delivery estimate. When you say the tracking isn’t recognised is it the generic response that you get with RM24/48 parcels or a completely random made up number?

RM just says the number isnt recognised. I am aware there are huge delays in delivery but when when the seller doesnt bother responding after a week of queries I am afraid I begin to get very suspicious especially when the number of INRs suddenly increase. The item I have bought is one that is in high demand at present so the the suspicion is that they just havent got the stock. The other slightly odd thing is the date of the tracking number is 2 days earlier than the item was sent. How do you get a tracking number before sending.
