Is it possible given the pandemic to add my wife’s name to my bank account as a signatory? The advice on line is to go to your local branch. Is this an essential journey? Thoughts please.

No it is not unfortunately.
Most banks have no appointments available at this time.
Does she have an account in her own name?
You can ask your bank to add your wife to the account as soon as the Coronavirus has passed and banks are fully open for business again.1 -
If she hasn't got an account in her own name she should be able to do so online.

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Many thanks for your replies: yes she does have a bank account in her own name though not at the same bank.0

What's the end game here, i.e. what is it that her being a signatory would achieve? There may be other ways of addressing your issue(s)?1

Indeed - if you are wanting to give her money you could transfer it using internet banking or phone bank. You could even give her an old fashioned cheque which if she has an App on her mobile could be paid in, in a few seconds - I think the limit has been increased to a maximum of £1000.0

What did the bank say when you rang and asked?

Many thanks again for your replies they are helpful: the end game is: we don’t have a will written and how would my wife get easy access to the money in my bank accounts in the event of my death given the current environment0

I haven't heard of anyone being here one minute and gone the next...so far. If you get ill, transfer your cash to her account. I'm sure she'd transfer it back if you recovered.......wouldn't she? Hmmmmmm🤔Ginger123456789 said:Many thanks again for your replies they are helpful: the end game is: we don’t have a will written and how would my wife get easy access to the money in my bank accounts in the event of my death given the current environmentI came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.1
