iPhone sold on gumtree and bank froze account

Hey so I took 2 contracts out last week as I got one for my wife and daughter but they said they are fine with there current ones and to sell them on gumtree to help with bills as I no longer can work!
So I put the 2 iPhone 11s on gumtree and sold each of them to a guy for 520 each! He paid via online transfer to my account before he arrived but he paid in 4 payments with different names which he said they were his cousins as he didn’t have a bank!
Got a letter today for nationwide saying my account has been closed for no reason what so ever!
what are my options

What is it with cousins? This is the second thread where someone's account got closed because a cousin paid some money by bank transfer.
preables, the only option you have is learn from this, and hope you won't get a Third Party Fraud CIFAS marker (you can check this with CIFAS in a few weeks time). Why did you even agree to sell some pretty valuable goods to someone who allegedly doesn't have a bank account???5 -

Hmh. Did you marry your gf in between your two posts today? Or have you got both?10 -

You've answered your own post I would say.1 -
You managed to get 2 iPhone 11 contracts on while on JSA?
That application form should make for interesting reading. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.4 -
So you took out 2 contracts ( plus phones) for wife and daughter, they said current ones were ok so you sold the phones.
Whats happened to the contracts eg the monthly payments ?
Why would you take out new contracts before asking if the current contracts were ok ?
Why not just return the phones ?
More holes than swiss cheese.

I thought you only pay the contract if you activate the sim and start using it? And yes I managed to get 2 contracts out as I had a job before this virus with a perfect credit score!DCFC79 said:So you took out 2 contracts ( plus phones) for wife and daughter, they said current ones were ok so you sold the phones.

will I be able to return the sims and get out of contract and what do I do regarding my bank as no one has helped me so far0 -
You pay the contract if you've signed up to it regardless of what you do with the SIM unless you took it out over the phone or online and are still with in the 14 day cooling off period. But if you cancel and the contract was for the phone as well, aren't they going to want their phones back?
With regards to the bank, you didn't ask a clear question. Your account is closed - what options do you want? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

What more help are you expecting to get here? You tried to be clever and make a quick buck by seemingly questionable means, you got involved with some fraudsters, your account of what happened is full of holes, you have a wife one minute and a gf the next, none of us has heard the Nationwide side of the story, and even if we had, none of us could make Nationwide do what they don't want to do. If you think you have a justified complaint against Nationwide, raise a formal complaint with them. You won't get a fast decision, as such matters usually involve organisations outside the bank/building society. So it's best if you work on the basis that your account with Nationwide is closed for good, that you will have a Third Party (or even First Party) Fraud marker on CIFAS, that you will be lucky if you get a Basic Account at another bank for the next 6 years, and that you should do everything in your powers to get yourself another job as soon as possible. Whilst this will be particularly hard in the present situation, there are jobs, and application queues, about. Get on with it.preables said:what do I do regarding my bank as no one has helped me so far3 -
Can I just check my understanding as to what you've done in terms of the phones? If I'm wrong - I don't mind being corrected....
- Taken out two contracts for new iPhones
- Sold the phones to some dodgy person on gumtree
- Want to cancel the contract without returning the above phones
Did you think you could just sell the phones and cancel the contracts and everybody would be happy?
The price of the phone makes up part of your monthly contract payment - so to cancel the contract you have to return the phone - now you can't do that as you've sold them to some dodgy person on gumtree - so now you're committed to running with your contracts for whatever term you took out. The total you'll pay on both contracts will cover the cost of the phones and then some more... So on top of this - because of the way you've taken the payment - you've also lost your bank account, and most likely access to any bank account for years to come. Not exactly the best way to make a quick buck.10 -
Gumtree + Iphone sale = 100% fraud.4
