Logitech mouse warranty requirements

Hi
I have been processing a Logitech warranty for a defective gaming mouse, everything was fine and they agreed to send me a replacement but the terms are simply astonishing to me. I have no problem destroying the old one if thats what they require but not before they have sent a replacement with these kind of hoops they want me to jump through. Surely this isn't legal?

Stops people fraudulently claiming they are not working to get another one for free to sell etc. These rules are always because someone has tried to pull a fast one before...0

I suppose in principle it's no different from you having to send away the faulty item before they despatch the new one.
It's "legal" if that's what their warranty requires, manufacturer warranties are in addition to your statutory rights against the retailer.0 -
As above, it's perfectly legal and stops people trying it on and the item appearing on eBay soon afterwards.
Sounds fun, actually! Time to get a big hammer out.0 -
Its not some hidden fault etc Its the slick pads, 1 of which tore meaning it doesn't glide properly every now and then, pretty obvious in the photos I sent which is why they sent this, I expected new pads sent not this. Haven't had this with other manufacturers, won't be using Logitech again. I guess this is the world we live in where everyone tries to scam

Yep, there are often threads on here where people receive duplicate items and try and pass them off as "unsolicited goods" that they can keep or sell, threads where people have been undercharged and are trying to wriggle out of paying what they owe, etc, etc. A good number of people are greedy, so it's unsurprising that policies like this are invented.1

The way I see it is that it saves you posting it back for them to destroy, manufactures need confirmation faulty item being written off so they can reclaim any Vat and Taxes paid since there replacing it at no cost and don’t want to pay Vat and Tax twice0

It's no different than if you had to send it away for repair really and will actually mean that you get a quicker replacement. In terms of legality warranties are in addition to your statutory rights so they can have whatever terms in it they like, within reason.

You won't be using Logitech again because they want proof of destruction? What's the problem?

OP's problem is that they want such proof before sending a replacement. This will leave the OP without a (gaming) mouse for an indeterminate period ... remember that it sometimes works, the fault is intermittent.0
