Costs incurred due to cancellation of flight

So, our flights gets cancelled, but with holidays there are the extra costs incurred such as holiday insurance, interest paid on the card, items purchased in preparation.
These extras outside of the flights that were cancelled, all amount to, in our case, well over £100. The travel insurance, which was significantly high due to health conditions, and the flights were paid via CC some time ago, so there would have been the extra amount paid in the interest accrued, but now the flights have been cancelled and we do not have a possible suitable alternative. Should I claim via s75 for both or will they tell me the Airline is responsible for all, or would you think they are a seperate matter?

Tl;Dr Flight cancelled, holiday cancelled, insurance not needed, should I be in the financial position that I was before booking, or is it a case of just bad luck?

Thank you in advance.

Bad luck I'm afraid.  You have actually used your insurance, because you've been covered from the point you paid for it until now.  Had you had to cancel for your own reasons (ill health, for example) it would have paid out.  Interest on a credit card debt was discretionary - you could have paid it off without incurring interest.

Tough luck. You have had the benefit of the insurance protection anyway. You're not going to be covered for the buying of new flip-flops and the like. If all you stand to lose is a hundred quid or so, then it would hardly be worth claiming anyway

Hi. It was prepayment of a wheelchair accessible vehicle hire, accessibility ramps for the villa when we got there so I could get in, a storage bag for my insulin and other assorted 'paraphernalia' that someone who is disabled with my needs, requires before a holiday.
I know the Coronavirus is getting you down, but not everyone is on the scrounge. Just looking for some advice. I guess my years of being stuck inside have prepared me for the current times, so I don't have to take out my frustrations on anonymous people, to bring a spark of joy to otherwise boring days.

You know, it's says something about this forum where someone can't ask a question without people instantly being condescending.  Supposed to be helping people, a lot of folk come here desperate for advice, but are instantly sent running. There are real people asking here. Yes you may get 1 or 2 bad apples, but the vast majority of people are here for help. It is very very sad, and I think Martin Lewis would be ashamed. :(
