Sending them your bank statements will certainly allow them to work out how much money you have coming in and out - and so they then know how much they can take you for - these kinds of operations have been around for a while - and I'm sorry you've lost some money - hopefully it wasn't too much - but whatever you do - don't send them any more money for anything. You might also find that you now get targeted with other financial scams - so be very, very wary as to where you put your money in future. It's a bit of a tough lesson to learn sadly.

Yes , any personal financial documents you send are highly likely to be used for identity fraud or attempts to drain those Bank accounts
