My view is, If you're not going to be moving for several years and if you can afford it, do it. An alternative is buying part of a wind farm through https://rippleenergy.com/ as it will save a bit of money on electricity and you can take it with you if you move. Disclaimer:- I have bought shares in the company and will be buying part of their first trial generation as my solar doesn't produce enough to completely power the car as well as the house with battery.I have had a look, and it looks quite an appealing idea.Comparing it to the cost of adding more solar PV, it appears more economical. For example, to add about 4kWp solar PV, producing about 3MWh/year, would cost about £4k; to buy a share in a windfarm, to produce about the same/year is estimated to cost about £2k, and as I understand it, with the capital returned over a 20 year lifetime. The credits on the electricity account, I work out at more than £100/year, so at least a 5% roi. This offer has gone live today. The wind turbine will be in South Wales, not that far from where Mart & we live.Initial period for application is 6 weeks, unless oversubscribed.Details can be found here.2 -

I'm keen to encourage any investment in renewable energy generation so have registered our interest in taking part also. Anyway delighted to have secured our little portion. It would seem ROI should take about 9 years into it's 20/25 year life. Hopefully it will get well supported so they can build another. After all it wouldn't do to let the City and Finance sector have the monopoly on Energy generation.
Just got to keep the ol' ticker going long enough to collect on it! This is an interesting article on investing in renewable energy funds.https://www.moneyobserver.com/renewable-energy-investment-trusts-retain-appeal-among-income-investors
The problem for me is that a lot of these RE focussed investment trusts are priced at a premium to net asset value. I don’t think the future prospects justify paying over the net asset value. As the article says
Since then, the outlook for the power price has arguably deteriorated further due to the corona-induced reduction in corporate activity and the plunging oil price. If the UK government’s recent proposal to allow more onshore UK wind turbines increases supply from that quarter, it will further exacerbate the downward pressure. Meanwhile more of the funds are warning that they may not be able to keep increasing dividends in line with RPI, with two already having dropped that commitment.I believe a lot of us here are aware of the ever increasing efficiency of the latest RE and and one wonders why anyone would want to invest in the old technology installations which effectively what one is doing with these funds. The attraction of course is the current yield but in the long term if what we have heard about how the new technologies are so much cheaper to deploy is true these yields will eventually fall off a cliff and in turn so will the asset values. It is not only fossil fuels and ICEVs that will lose out to the onward march of ever more efficient RE technologies.I wonder if the same risk might apply to cooperative schemes. If electricity prices do fall will the value of one’s shares fall with them?Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -

It looks like the active divesting from fossil fuels could be an economically positive move let alone the environmental aspect:

A question and answers section is to be included so should prove interesting. I've added the link sent to me below but no idea if it will work from here. In any case you will need to have uploaded Zoom before hand to take part. A link for this did appear when I tried it earlier!https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84233659787?status=success

Just a news item on green based funds, not a suggestion.
