We are moving to a park home site with no possibility of a landline, Virgin media, or any other direct connection. Any advice on best/cheapest internet connection would be gratefully considered.

Yes thanks mgfvvc. I was a bit eager in posting my problem. As you say, most of my options have been outlined in an earlier answer to a similar situation. It is though, a fairly complex issue and quite a bit more expensive than using a landline. From what I can glean, 3 and Vodaphone seem to have it fairly sewn up. At least I learnt the difference between a dongle and a mifi router! Anyone know if 5G will provide a better option for us (fairly few) landline outcasts?
Thanks for any interest. Stay Safe Everyone.0 -
or maybe satellite broadband. I don't have an opinion, but might be worth looking into?

Yes mgfvvc, Researched that avenue, but it looks expensive and fiddly (for me!) Looks like I'll be going with 3's "Smarty" set up. Checked the coverage for the area we are moving to and 3 seems fairly strong there. The only drawback is, the cheapest option on Smarty (£22.00 per month) ties one in for 36 months. So if a better deal pops up, we'll be stuck with it. Still, it's only a fiver a month more than we pay the Post Office on landline now, so we'll probably bite the bullet. BUT like everyone else, because of the virus, we are frozen, unable to make the move to our new home. So goodness knows what the situation will be when/if normality returns. P.S. Using "3" with a 4G router, with maybe an antenna, looks the strongest bet.
Stay Safe folks. thanks for your interest.0 -
Links in the other thread show you how to get a free 3 sim to test for quality. Don't believe the coverage maps. My granddaughter got a free sim to test, glad she did as the supposedly strong indoor and out signal according to the map was worse than her poor EE signal, ended up having to pay to get a landline installed.

??? You have lost me there. Smarty should be a monthly contract, cancel any time, thats kind of the point of smarty and voxi.stefanjo said:The only drawback is, the cheapest option on Smarty (£22.00 per month) ties one in for 36 months.
What are you looking at that has a 36month three year contract?

Thanks mnbvcxz, Not sure now whether or not I dreamt it. But I could swear that some days ago I checked the Smarty deals and there were three of them. The one I liked was priced at £22.00 pm. but 36 month lock in. There was another at £15 but a limited set of data and one at £10, even less data, THAT one, renewable monthly. However, you are perfectly correct. On checking today, the unlimited deal is priced at £20, renewable monthly, as are the other two options. Perhaps lockdown is frying my brains. Still, even better, as long as coverage is adequate in the area we are moving to. So far, I can only go off the coverage map supplied by 3. It is about fifty miles from our present address, so I can't follow the suggestion from molerat regarding using a free sim in order to physically check, because of travel restrictions.
Thanks for your intervention mnbvcxz. It cheered me up, (but made me doubt my sanity!)

5G coverage is very limited at present and generally limited to big cities so unless you intend to live in one of those areas it won't be an option for some time to come (especially if those idiots keep burning the masts down)1

You're right Neil. This idiocy reminds me of the barmpots who were responsible for children's deaths, by lying about possible problems with the M.M.R. jab. How do these clowns make the connection between a virus and an electronic signal? It's akin to being afraid of witches!0
