Argos returns

Any advice welcome. To keep it short my Father is in the high risk category so I moved out to reduce the risk of covid. I bought two laptops from argos so we could keep in touch and I could check on him every day. One laptop had already been opened and has a scratch on the screen I took it back to the Sainsburys Argos where I purchased it 3 hours earlier but they say they aren't accepting returns until the main stores reopen. The lockdown is the reason I purchased it. I only want an exchange. For some reason he's never been able to use a mobile phone but can use a laptop. I need to see his face as he lies and always says he's alright even when hes not. My intention is to skype him.
Lesson 1 always check the security tag before you leave the shop. See I am learning.

Assuming it's still usable, just carry on using it, make sure you've got a record of having attempted to return it, and do so whenever they're accepting returns? Not much else you can realistically do.0

It was £600 I haven't set it up scared to do so in case they say I scratched it. Waited 45 minutes the first time on the phone and then got disconnected second time, probably 55 minutes, guy on the phone said there was nothing he could do until the stores reopens. I give them another ring and ask if I can do that. Hope I get through before my minutes run out. I'll post back the result later. Not using it for any sensitive information though in case the person who returned it has put a keylogger or anything on it.

Minutes run out? Do you not have unlimited minutes on your plan? (I'm assuming you're using a mobile phone). What number are you calling them on?0

Cheap £7.50 a month tesco mobile. 03456403030. Anyway contacted them on facebook three times, it's a long wait for a response, asked could I use it and they kept replying with a preprepared text that says check out or website. They are good at wearing you down. Think the stores will be open by the time I get anywhere. I blame 5G.0

Whilst our standalone stores are closed, we’ve extended our returns period for goods eligible for our 30 day returns promise.
Any purchases made from 1 March, can be returned up to 30 days after our stores reopen. In line with our returns policy, these products will need to be unopened, unused and in their original packaging, with proof of purchase.
Our Argos in Sainsbury’s stores are still open for collection of essential, pre-paid online orders. We’re sorry, but these stores cannot accept returns at this time. Our returns collection service is also unavailable during this time.

sheramber did you read the first post. The item was already opened. It's obviously been a return as bits of the packaging were missing. I know this as I bought two. The fact the SECURITY tag had been slit means it should not have been sold as new. It's a security tag for a reason. Google keylogger. I accept I was gullible to assume Argos was a reputable company. If it said on the first page of the website please check your goods before leaving the store as we sell refurbished items as new and we do not accept returns at present I would have checked. I needed the laptop to keep in contact with a vulnerable person during this lockdown period. If I can't use it or return it till after the lockdown it serves no purpose.0
