New job, can't be furloughed

Hi, I had been self-employed for under a year, not enough work so ended self-employment. started a new part-time job late March in non-essential retail, worked 2 days,   Not able to be furloughed due to the start date government guidelines, new job have me as on A/L at the moment,  not ideal, and will run out.
My husband is self employed, but only working about half day per week due to having to be in people's homes.. have to wait to hear until June for funds.
We don't qualify for any benefits/ help due to savings we have above limits (we are 56 years old, was for our retirement, we have no pensions).
Will I be able to be furloughed after a certain time scale? Or any suggestions.
Im struggling with going out due to anxiety, even for shopping...

You won't be furloughed because you started after Feb 28th.
  • Ok, so Im guessing there won't be a change by government, say after a month of so of wait time.
I.e..if you started after 28 feb and before 28 March you can now be furloughed,  furlough starting from 28 March for you...

Sorry to be blunt but situations like this are what savings are for. If this situation goes on for three months say and you want to end up in the exact same position you would have been in, you just carry on working for three months past your intended retirement date.

  • Thanks for that,  but they are not actual savings, my father in law left us a little as inheritance. We are both very low earners..... it is what it is 😔....

I sympathise with your situation, but there is nothing you can do. There is no chance the date of 28 February will change, according to the Chancellor today in the coronavirus daily update, in answer to a question about preventing fraud.

Inheritance/savings makes no difference, it still excludes you from UC. No, the government is unlikely to change the dates of the furlough.
