Microsoft Office

Just taken delivery of new HP computer. It comes with Office 2016 which needs activating within 7 days. Can I just buy an activation key from ebay and type it in. Or, is it worth buying Office 2019 from ebay and installing and activating that. Not sure if any major changes.

Thank you.

My opinion was that 2019 was a step down from 2016. Not as good.

Libre Office is free and jolly good
  • My laptop came with 2016, it was good for what I needed it for. I installed 2019 as I’m using my school’s subscription no noticeable difference. (Btw I have a Lenovo G50)

What happens when you press Activate Now?

Any particular reason as to why you say that?

Just that i am currently on Office 2010 and i am looking to upgrade to either 2016 or 2019 but not not NOT 365 as i don't need any ongoing payments.

Office 365 is the same as Office 2019 (to an extent), but you get regular updates to the software with new features, and then when the next version of Office comes out you get the option to upgrade automatically as part of your subscription, plus you can stick it on five computers.  But of course no dosh, no saving of files.
The one-off payment options get you the software as it was originally released and the security updates, but will eventually drop out of mainstream support.
A lot depends on how much want the latest and greatest version of Office and what you need.

I have 365 Pro at work, and 2019 Pro at home ...they are largely the same but I prefer 2019 Pro. I previously had 2016 Pro at home ... 2019 isn't much of a difference, so if 2016 is cheaper than 2019 go for the cheaper one, otherwise go for 2019.

Someone kindly gave me a code for Office 2013 ;) that needed phone activation, but it wouldn't give me the phone number, but google told me to try 02023 147 4930 or 0800 018 8354
    Job done!
