MSE Poll: Have you been furloughed?

Comments

  • Still working full time in the office. There are so many that have been furloughed or avoiding contact, there are now more offices than people, so those that are left are not sharing workspace and most of us are probably safer at work than at home!
  • No mention of it, the word is alien.  Fortunate enough to be needed for maternity cover, what can I say.  Only person from wider entire family still in work full time apparently.
My father who I didn't disclose I'd had to change my job prior to all of it was fine, as it was my previous company didn't take much knocking down. References from 2019 pretty much gone. It certainly puts another spin on the events of June and December 2019 it really does goes to show those incidents weren't end of the world stuff. My Dad said for once I didn't know how well I'd picked. Should really thank Covid 19 for revealing the truth.

  • I've been furloughed as of 30th march but my employer has today told me I am.to go back to work on Tuesday 14th April. I have been getting paid 80% for this week and last week but how can they ask us to go back if we are furloughed as it's only 2 weeks and furlough minimum is.3.weeks?? They are implying they are not applying for the grant and will just pay our wages themselves but how can they when I have a signed document agreeing furlough and they've been paying 80%p.a. up to now. I feel like they are duping us and something underhand is occurring. Who can I seek help from about it?

I've been furloughed on full pay. I'm a Trainee Train Driver and all trainees are in the same boat. Not sure how long for but we were initially told 3 weeks (the 3 week mark will be reached on Monday 13th ). I can see it being nearer the 12 week mark though.

I have two jobs I have been furloughed in one of them which is an 8 Hour contract am I still entitled to the 80% wage from the government?
On the job from which you've been furloughed, yes.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Finished job on the 9th of March to start a new job that has now been severly delayed due to covid. Old employer refusing to rehire to furlough and now no wage coming in.
  • I'm furloughed at 80% not sure what 80% will be yet as haven't been paid. My wife works part time in accounts and is working from home plus 2 kids at home age 8 and 10. The eldest is ok she get on with school stuff on her own but the youngest wants constant attention which I'm finding really hard. Luckily it's easter hols at the moment.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Got to say i'm a little surprised at the results. I thought the furloughed would be much higher than those still at work. Although i only looked at the 80% really, i didn't factor in those who get above the 80%.

I had been furloughed on 80%. I've not been given the full 3 weeks of furlough but for what it is it's in my interest to not kick up a fuss over it. I'm not happy about not getting the full 3 weeks but there you go.
I have a return date and not all of my department will be back so aren't I lucky. Not. I would rather stay at home safe on 80% and safe. If i worked with people who were going above and beyond to meet safe working practices then i may feel a bit differently but i don't. I work with corner cutters. Some try their best but with this virus 'some' isn't enough.
I am grateful for still being in employment yet i worry about catching this bloody virus and then passing it on to those at home.

On my street it appears virtually everyone must be furloughed also. I know my immediate neighbours are. Looking up and down the street i see very few going to work. Other family members have been furloughed, even one in childcare who had originally stayed open for key workers.

So when i go back and i hear on the TV, on the radio, on the internet all the talk of stay at home, save lives and i go on social media and see people complaining about someone going to visit their relative and standing at opposite ends of their drive and how that's so terrible i'm thinking well yeah how is that any different to me now having to go to work and being in close proximity to the public, numerous members of the public and co-workers. Stay at home & save lives? Yeah i'd like to so if Boris would like to put restrictions on my area of work then we'll both be happy.

We're the freaks on our road, household of five and four of us still going into work as normal, the other one working from home.
All this talk of lockdown doesn't really ring true because of this, it still feels normal apart from getting to and from work so much easier.

I'll have that feeling tomorrow. Listening to lock down talk and it'll be like what lock down? I go out to work for 10-11 hours a day, i come home, i may nip out for a run/bike ride if i can be bothered but with the time i'll be getting back and with tea and washing up to do i doubt it. Do a quick 30-45min workout, have a shower and then use my remaining 30mins to do who knows what and then go to bed.

It's like when the media hype up the 4 day weekend at Easter. Not for me. I have to work Saturday even though we usually rota it and it's deadly quiet of a weekend. Not allowed that particular Saturday off for some reason.
