Leaving Vodafone after Turkey price hike - no number portability

I've just had en email from Vodafone saying my contract will no longer include roaming to Turkey free of charge, it will in future be £6 a day.
The changes are summarised here https://www.vodafone.co.uk/mobile/turkey-rf-a
I called to end my contract and get a PAC code but I was told ending the contract early was possible, but would be treated as an instant termination, so I could not port my number, it would be lost forever.
Is this allowed? Nevertheless, it damages any goodwill I have with Vodafone.

Afaik you can leave anytime you like but you would have to pay a termination charge plus what's left on your contract.
News to me about about losing your number i have never heard that one before just because you are leaving.
Hopefully someone else can clear that one up but i still can't believe they are stopping you from porting to another network its a bit like blackmail.....you leave you loose your number...

Try texting INFO to 85075 and seeing what it says, and then request a PAC via text.

You can terminate a contract early, although you will have to settle any remaining months. Changing roaming costs to one country doesn’t form a fundamental change to the contract, so you would be lucky to leave without additional cost on that basis.

Requesting and using a PAC should result in the original contract ceasing and the number transferring.

You might find other networks are no longer offering free/cheap roaming to Turkey, if not now, maybe soon...

A good flounce is always fun, but if Vodafone works well for you generally, it may be worth accepting it and moving to a plan with global roaming plus if you go to Turkey a lot.
Which other network do you plan to move to?

Indeed. I'm not sure if anyone read the link I gave, where it said "Your right to leave. If you’ve received a message to us with a link to this page, then based on your previous usage in Turkey, this change means you can end your current agreement without penalty."
    So there are 2 scenarios:
    1. I spoke to a misinformed call handler.
    2. This "without penalty" means losing your number, which sounds like a penalty to me.
Strange to offer a release from the contract, only to fail to train the call handlers of what that means.

I guess the 'no penalty' is termination without further liability. I'm not sure you have a 'right' to keep any number, they belong to the networks - does seem a bit daft though as porting is quick & easy to do for them
