That is what it is called on the reminder ;)
Just a rant, I've just taxed my car, and the robdogs want an extra £5 for me not to sign over my bank details to them!!

Renewal by DD £145
Renewal as a single payment £150.

They sneaked that one through, I've never paid extra to pay by debit card before.

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

They're merely aligning themselves with just about every other "business" that offers DD payment options ... DD is almost always cheaper overall as it gives them control over payments.

    PS - there's a specific board for vents. ;)

This must be new as it did not apply when i last renewed (a few months ago). I don't think it does apply everywhere. For example you don't get a discount with Council Tax, Water Rates or TV licence paying by DD.

It wouldn't have been so bad if the V11 didn't clearly state that both the single payment and the DD were £145, with the usual small print about the budget at the bottom.

What I should have done was sign up for DD, then cancelled it at the bank as soon as they had been paid, but no way do I let them know my bank details, even though HMRC seem to know them already....

Not my golf club, they charge £30 more to pay via direct debit.

Wasn't like that two weeks ago.

I think what's happened is that you've simply tripped over the budget increase in the price...

They always print and send in advance, with a caveat at this time of year that it might go up in the budget. Which was four weeks ago, and took effect from 1st April. Inflationary increase, rounded up to the nearest fiver - so £145 went up to £150. If you'd paid by DD after 1st April, it'd have been £150, too.

I thought about that. it does say check the budget on the V11, but the current prices  at
clearly show £150 for single payment, £145 for single payment by DD.
I did think that it had gone up a fiver, it was in the quiet mumbly bit of the budget, along with the idea of charging first year VED forever, and backdating it to 2017.

Maybe they kindly added a "discount" of £5 for DD in the budget, and an overall increase of £5.

Was not like that on the reminder we received today either.     Tax by DD for one payment or one payment by other payment methods are
both the same price. Extra to pay DD monthly though.

Just checked the prices on the Gov website.  Current March 2020 onwards prices.   One off DD payment seems to be exactly the same as
the normal one off payment.  Np discounts for paying by DD.
