P&O cruises problem

I was hoping for a little advice as to whether there is anything I can do or just have to accept the loss.

My cruise is booked for August which realistically probably wont happen and even if it did I wouldnt want to go on it.

They have refused a refund, in fact Planet Cruise who I booked it through are charging me an extra £75 cancellation fee. They will only offer future cruise credit which is useless because I've already booked another P&O cruise for next summer and they wont let me use the credit towards that.

My travel insurance wont cover it because P&O haven't officially cancelled the cruise yet but the remaining balance is due to be paid next week.

Would section 75 apply maybe? Anything else I've missed or do I just have to accept the lost deposit and cancellations fees?

section 75 does not apply, the cruise is still available for you.
have a look at what P&O are offering for changes

Thanks. I know what they're offering but the credit is no good due to me already having booked for next year. Even though I haven't paid them for next years cruise yet they wont allow me to use the credit note against that cruise for some inexplicable reason.

from the main MSE article (which I expect sums up your position)

    • You'll need to weigh up the risk based on what you've paid so far and what you've yet to pay, but this is likely to be a bad idea.

The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) warns if you're paying in instalments for a holiday and stop paying because you fear your holiday will be cancelled or you don't want to go, you are effectively cancelling the booking.

This means that if the booking is subsequently cancelled by the operator you won't get your money back, whereas if you continue to pay and it's then cancelled, you would get a refund.

Yes, that sums it up perfectly. For a loss of £269 deposit I'm pretty reluctant to pay the remaining £3000 and risk losing that in case they decide to sail.
