Oh OK, completely understand your points. The photo the buyer sent me was similar to say, a box of cereal cut in half with only the bottle half intact and the top half completely removed but it was a bubble wrapped envelope. If I was on the receiving end, I would have queried it with the post person there and then so they would have at least made a note of it.
Can I just ask, if you guys were sending say 5 x 200ml tubes, what would you send them in and what would you wrap them in etc? Would you send in a box or a container?0 -

I still think it sounds weird what your buyer describes, but if it did come with a huge bundle of other stuff like some other posters have said then I guess it's plausible. Quite honestly when we were still being handed parcels I didn't thoroughly check them all myself, though I would notice immediately after accepting and looking through but by then the postman's got back in his van so it would be too late. I personally am more careful to inspect parcels from couriers because we've had problems, but not with RM.2 -

Thanks @Spoonie_Turtle and @soolin. It's good to know what others would do. I will definitely use a bag to put items into bubble wrapped envelopes if I sell anything again or use a box if I have one available.0

Royal Mail finally coughed up. They insisted I had not packed my items correctly so I kept pointing them to packaging advice on their website saying I had followed what they had said. OK, so I didn't put the items in a bag as one of you stated but this is not mentioned on the website. Also, how they knew I hadn't packed properly is beyond me, they've not once asked me how I sent the parcel.
I had 2 generic responses from what seemed like robots via email so I asked to speak to a manager (couldn't really speak to them by email but you know what I mean) and got given another email address. I sent the same email to that and was told I would be given compensation straight away. The cheque is on it's way to me.
I've still one or two items I want to get rid of but when I post them out, if and when they sell, I will put them in a plastic bag first, then one of those silver plastic bags they sell at PoundLand and then into a thick bubble wrapped envelope just to make sure they don't tear.
I left the buyer positive feedback as there was no other option but made it clear this buyer often gets parcels delivered torn/open and to be warned. She told me in a pm on ebay that she had had 8 this year. That seems astronomical.1
