Oh my word, as if your boy is almost 20😱 Mind you, mine are 25 and 23 so I shouldn't be surprised🤣
Lovely news on the pay increase - I had about an extra £700 which was a lovely treat. Damn student finance took £90 though which I will try to get back as I don't earn enough for repayments usually😉
Happy Christmas Eve!🎄I really need to sort out a new signature!1 -
I wouldn't worry too much about the age of your dinnerware. I have some pyrex plates that were my aunts, so must be well over 40 years old & a whole dinnerservice & lots of glasses still in use that are older than my DS who is now 41. The pans however are a different problem as I left a curry to simmer & went back & realised it had dripped onto the cooker with an over half inch split in the base. It wouldn't be so annoying if it hadn't been the medium sized one that didn't get used very often. I then realised that there had been signs on the base that all was not well. So full new set of pans later. As for roasting tins they don't seem to last me 5 minutes. I got so cheesed off last year I bought one of those roasting tins that supermarkets sell around Xmas. I had to bend it to fit in the oven! I still haven't decided what the turkey is going in tomorrow. It keeps me out of mischief anyway.

benbenandme said:. I have decided I am going to work on upgrading some of my homeware stuff - most of my plates / saucepans etc are all older than ds and he is 20 next year so I think I've had my moneys worth from them all, so that will be my focus in the sales - saucapans, cookware in general, cutlery etc. My plates / mugs / glasses are fairly decent and not that old, I might keep an eye out for bedding / towels etc too. Wild hey!!

Ah pyrex is indestructible isn't it! I was given some when I went to uni 30 years ago, and some other ceramic dishes, they are all still going strong and they won't be replaced
I also have a couple of Le Crueset dishes that won't be going anywhere either. It's mainly the saucepans, baking trays, maybe some new utensils too.

We had to cave and get a new Yorkshire pudding tin esrlier this year. I was using a 12 hole cake tin I got from Argos (super cheap) back in 1997 and it finally got so bad the puddings wouldn't come out at all. I got another super cheap (£3 dunhelm) to replace it 🤣 however our Argos pans bought the same time lasted 22 years. Replaced them with a tefal sset just before the first lockdown. Two of them are totally wrecked already 🤷♀️Debt free Feb 2021 🎉1

Happy Boxing Day! Hope you all had a good Christmas yesterday, mine was actually quite nice - I usually want it over and done with but this year we did a very simple day, not following our usual routine and it was lovely. We had presents in the morning then went for a walk on the beach, it was packed, the weather was lovely and I really enjoyed it. We skipped the traditional meal and had picky bits which went down well. Mum then began moaning that it was cold (I'd turned the heating up to 19) so it got ramped up to 22
and we promptly all fell asleep on the sofa due to the tropical conditions
None of us were hungry in the evening so the cheese / crackers / Christmas cake etc will now be todays dinner instead
Today ds is working 11-5. I'm looking forward to a day of watching the football with a tin of Quality Street and not budging from the sofa.

So for those of you who have been reading my diaries for a while you will know I often get a spring cleaning itch on Boxing day - I often take the decorations down on the 27th. This year I am planning on leaving the tree until next weekend as ds is going to his Dads for a few days, so I was going to blitz the place then. However this morning I went into ds room to put some bits away and notices a load of black mould above his window. He is a nightmare for not opening his window (my bedroom window is barely shut and even when its really cold I will try and open it for half an hour every day). Anyway, once he went to work I thought I'd go and clean the mould - his room is small so I had to stand on his bed - this then developed into the slats on his bed falling through ... anyway, this snowballed quite quickly into me pulling out his bed, cleaning behind it, removing the mattress, cleaning that, cleaning under the bed ... stripping his bed, stripping my bed, washing all the bedding, washing a load of ds clothes, all windows wide open for a few hours, all washing drying on the line, both beds remade and two bin bags of rubbish removed from upstairs. At least the Christmas tree is still in tact

Morning, so today is finances day, getting everything ship shape before the start of the New Year. I need to see what money is where, move it around as necessary, plan some goals for 2023, check renewal sates for insurances etc, look at new savings accounts / closing others etc. No other plans today as yet, just me, the laptop, a notebook and pens, my coffee mug and the radio - bliss!
I have also signed up for another virtual walking challenge this morning - 2023 miles in 2023. Some of you will remember I did 2021 miles in 2021 and it really motivate me to do more walking each day. I am planning to complete this one by my birthday, so that works out at 9.5 miles a day on average. Bring it on!Mortgage Total: £51,801 / £75,000

I should sign up for a walking challenge as I regularly do 20-30,000 steps a day, I don’t have a car and don’t like buses so walk everywhere. I aim for a minimum of 15,000 a day. I’m not very happy at the moment as my less than one year old FitBit has stopped working (probably worn it out 😆) and I’ve no idea if I’m hitting my target.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1
