Parkingeye - Goodwill offer £20 - keying error..

First Post
Hi
I received a PCN after the following circumstances.
Attempts to pay on arrival at the car park were unsuccessful as the both machines were out of order.  One had a notice on the display and the other would not accept any coins, the slot was blocked and no money could be inserted. {video evidence of attempts to pay}.

At the conclusion of my night shift AND in a effort to do the right thing, I approached the machine, again with video recording and attempted to pay.  Low and behold, my money was accepted and a ticket issued.  By this time the need to park was no longer there. I took a photo of the ticket and went on my merry way.

To my horror within days I received the PCN.  In short I had entered an incorrect digit of my registration plate.
I've appealed the PCN which has been refused on the grounds my reg number is incorrect!!  I'm now told as a token of goodwill they require I pay a reduced amount of £20 which I am strongly opposed to.  Yes, I've got a digit wrong.  That doesn't alter the fact that I'm accepting it was my vehicle.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Regards

REDX - Thanks for your response and the others who have made suggestions.  One queried why i was prepared to pay.  If there is an alternative tnen i'm all ears.

download and read the BPA CoP 2020 edition , clause 17.4 section A , minor keying errors

if it was one character only then I would complain to the BPA that the pcn should have been cancelled , giving them copies of all paperwork , tickets etc

PE have offered a major keying error option section 17.4 B , which you dispute as being flawed

I would then wait until around day 25 following the popla code being issued and then put in a popla appeal based on clause 17A , no landowner authority and poor signage etc, assuming it isnt cancelled in the meantime once the BPA get involved

I would also be complaining to the landowner and to my MP too

As above, if the alleged event occurred after the latest version of the BPA CoP was issued, the scammers should not be issuing a PCN at all. Complain to the BPA as advised including proof of the minor keying error, and send a copy to Parking Lie.

Always complain to the landowner and your MP.

I suspect that, it this were to go to court they would struggle, their signs leave much to be desired, read this

Also, many judges regard thyese claims for minor keying errors/ommissions as trivial, a waste of court time

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP, it can cause the scammer extra costs and work, and has been known to get the charge cancelled.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully, when life gets back to normal, it will become impossible for those scammers who are left to continue their vile trade, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.,
