The CC will try and recover the money from the travel agent, when they tell them they have refunded you already then the CC will want their money back. Knowingly keeping funds you know you are not entitled too can be considered as theft by finding.
    Yep - exactly.

That's why it's ideal to wait a while and let the CC company and travel agent sort it out between themselves and tell you how they want the matter resolved - rather than trying to resolve it yourself.

The CC company and travel agent will be dealing with refunds en-masse. Using bris's example, if you ask the travel agent to treat you differently from all their other customers and not refund you, there's a greater risk that the CC company may not realise that you haven't been refunded by the travel agent, because everyone else has.

But as bris says, if they don't manage to sort it out between them after a while, the right thing to do would be to contact them both and ask what they want you to do.

We don't know when the OP got the refund via credit card other than "At the time they went bust, I claimed a full refund via my credit card"
Which was end Sept. So lets be generous and say refund was end Nov. 45 days on from there for TC or travel agent to contest is Mid Jan. So Travel Agent is well out of time to contest the chargeback. Even good will claim will not get looked at after this length of time.
So Travel agent won't get money back from credit card. They will not refund customer. Also why would travel agent tell CC now?
Which is why I would be suspicious about these emails.

I think it says more about the travel co., that 4 months after Credit Card refund, they’re only just contacting me now, to let me know they’re looking into my situation! I have no intention of making a claim against the TC, but, I’ll let this run, and see what happens! I’ll keep you all posted!

Thanks for all your replies so far!

I had something vaguely similar when my card was cloned and used fraudulently. The CC provider (Nationwide) reversed the transaction on my card, but then the supplier where the card had been used (Dabs.com) also credited the card and actually sent me a credit note with my address as the billing details and some random address as the delivery details!

I forwarded the credit note to Nationwide saying "you might find this useful" and told them that I had been credited twice. The credit sat on my card for months, but I just left it there knowing that they would eventually sort it out. Which they did.
