What happens if I get refunded by both credit card co, and travel agent?

Hi, I had flights booked with Thomas Cook, via a travel agent. At the time they went bust, I claimed a full refund via my credit card, but recently, I’ve been receiving e-mails suggesting that the agents I booked through, may also refund me! Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I think this could be too good to be true, but in the event of this happening, to whom would this refund be payable to?

Thanks in advance.
Jon.

Just make sure they are not scam emails.
If they are asking for any bank details then....

If you did get 2 refunds. You have to be aware that it could be picked up later on when auditing is done and they will be asking for a refund.

Then what? How would knowing someone's current account number help a fraudster?

What has current account got to do with a Credit card?
Bank details was a very generic phrase in this case.

I dont think it’s a scam, e-mails seem genuine, I’m more concerned about the legal/financial ramifications of being refunded twice!
Thanks for all your replies so far!

If you are refunded twice, keep that money aside and if you have to re-pay it to one of them, then you have the funds to do so.

If you do get two refunds, I would wait a while before doing anything - it may get resolved automatically.

i.e. One of the two companies might spot the double refund, and reverse their own refund.

    • The risk would be, for example, that you tell the travel agent not to refund you because the bank already has.
    • Then the bank contact you to say "The travel agent should be refunding you, so we're reversing our refund".

The CC will try and recover the money from the travel agent, when they tell them they have refunded you already then the CC will want their money back. Knowingly keeping funds you know you are not entitled too can be considered as theft by finding.
