As has already been stated the extension is only added on the day of your current MOT expiring. All cars expiring later in April do not show up with the October extention on the gov.uk site yet, not until the day they are due to expire. If you then get a new MOT during April, your new MOT will expire as normal in a years time, not Oct 2021.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that the extension is being added on a Monday for MOTs expiring that week.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

As the MOT is an annual thing I really can't understand getting exercised about losing two days always assuming that is what has happened.

It's insurance I'm bothered about, I seem to lose a day every year.

    Really?
Mine runs from 12:01 on 1/3/20 to 12:00 on 1/3/21, so I get one year exactly (apart from that administrative minute ;) )
