BEWARE of MOT Extension
Options
My MOT would have run out today, so I had my car MOT'd yesterday- luckily, it passed. But here's the problem. Last year's MOT would have expired on 3rd April, but the new one expires on 1st Apr 2021. So I lost 2 days because the new MOT does not include the unexpired days. And the reason for this is due to the 6 months extension. I went on the GOV mot history on Monday, and it sated that my MOT expires on 3rd Apr. However, now it states that last year's MOT expires on 3rd Oct 2020. So they automatically extended my MOT, and due to this extension, and since I was having my MOT more than 28 days before expiry, I lost the 2 days I would have otherwise got.
So I lost the 2 days I should have got, and presumably, also the 6 months as it is very apparent now that when you get the 6 months extension, the new MOT will start from the new date - not from the original expiry date. This was never made clear as to how the extension will operate. - if it was, I have not been made aware of it.
So be warned everyone!!

I just checked my partner's MOT on the GOV website, and that still states expiry date 6th June 2020 - no change. So I'm completely baffled as to what caused my MOT date to be extended by exactly 6 months. This must have happened this week; perhaps it was changed yesterday as a result of the MOT. I really don't know but the whole thing is an absolute disgrace, as I don't think the government explained how the 6 month extension will work. As I said, does anyone know whether you get a 'free' 6 month extension or does the new expiry date (for the new mot) revert back to the previous expiry date. I don't know, and when I asked the garage yesterday, they also don't knowBefore doing something... do nothing0

Maybe it's a rolling thing for MOTs due to expire in the next 30 days?
We need someone with an April MOT expiry to comment.1 -
Hundreds are dying, thousands are ill, and millions are in lockdown. The economy will take years to recover. And the OP is complaining about losing two days MOT.

Mine is due to expire on 16th April and still shows as expiring on 16th April.1

Mine was due to expire 5th April; I had it MoT'd about 2 weeks ago and it passed, Site still shows it expiring 5th April 2021 so I think OP's garage must have entered something wrong.

When you say,'site still shows expiring 5th April 2021' if you mean this year's than that's correct - you received the unexpired days, but if you last year's mot, this should say 2020 not 2021Before doing something... do nothing0 -
