Funeral Charges During The Pandemic

Shop around. There are companies that do basic funerals for under £3000 but sadly people are compelled to go to the same established firms they have used for generations.

Sometimes the deceased leaves wishes in their will as to the type of burial they would like.Deleted_User said:Shop around. There are companies that do basic funerals for under £3000 but sadly people are compelled to go to the same established firms they have used for generations.0 -
Our local crematorium is no mourners at allRobin9 said:Sevenofnine -You can have up to 10 mourners, any less 'allowed' needs to be challenged. where do you get that from ?
Surely the size of the building comes into it. I have a couple of small crems near me - they have to limit to 3 and 50 -

And usually the money to pay for it (or a paid up plan) then in that case there is no issue.

There are still pall bearers as the coffin has to be carried in, and crematorium staff are not allowed to do it. Family who live together can still share a limo. No fresh flowers but these were not always included in the cost. Families can chose to buy their own.#660

Changes are coming
A number of councils are banning funeral ceremonies because of the coronavirus crisis.
Bradford, Leeds and Kirklees councils have said families will no longer be able to attend services at crematoria. Instead the councils will offer “direct cremations”, in which there is no ceremony and mourners are not present; and burial services at gravesides, with a maximum of 10 mourners observing physical distancing guidelines.
The new rules will take effect from Monday in Kirklees and Bradford. Leeds has been offering direct cremations only for the past two weeks.
HANGES to burial and cremation services have been announced by Leeds City Council - and no new bookings will be taken for chapel funeral services. .............................................Any new services booked in from today, will be undertaken as ‘Direct Cremation Services’ only. A ‘Direct Cremation’ is a funeral which is not attended by mourners and has no service. We would ask families who wish to have a service, to discuss alternative options with their respective funeral director.Yeovil Crematorium is to suspend all public services from Monday and nobody but staff will be allowed into the crematorium building.
It means that no mourners will be present once her coffin has been taken inside.
Mr Morgan said: "All I want to do is to be a single mourner wrapped in plastic so I can watch my mother's coffin be taken through the crematorium and I can't do it.

Unless specifying burial I believe that low cost Direct Cremation is the best thing at these times then families can come together for a memorial service on an appropriate date eg birthday in better times.0

Just absurd. No people allowed inside a crem yet the public are still allowed to run round supermarkets unchecked.

When people are grieving and crying, it would be very hard not to get close and hug each other.0
