You're using an awful lot of gas, even for a 3 bedroomed detached house with an old inefficient boiler.
Any possibility your gas meter is serving others, e.g. a house that's been divided into flats?  Turn all your gas appliances off and see whether the red pointer moves, and if it's not likely to freeze, turn the supply off at the meter when you go away.

Check the Nest thermostat, it may have a mind of its own.
The bill seems correct, it's just that your DD hasn't been keeping up with your usage, and you haven't been giving monthly readings..  It's like four students in a flat finding out that each paying £1 per week into a kitty didn't cover their supermarket bill !  https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/lower-energy-direct-debits/#whatyoupay
It's not an imperial / metric mix up, that would have made your bill much cheaper.
When you switch, remember to check for separate suppliers as well as dual fuel.

carlsagen  - to change suppliers - use a comparison site eg CAB or Which (others are available) - use your actual annual) kwh  ) not DD  or number of rooms - look for the bottom line cost, don't get misled by the savings quoted.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Forget averaging out and monthly costs, just think in kWh and annual cost based on actual readings.  Looks like you're on a variable tariif and it's dropped from 3.26p/kWh to 2.60p/kWh?  Still a massive rip-off, especially if VAT is extra.
Your 17 (hundred) cubic feet (536kWh) in three days is high but not impossible if it's a big house.
You'll just have find out why you're using so much, and get a far better tariff.  It's just possible that the meter might be faulty, but old mechanical ones don't go berserk the way that modern ones do when the battery is expiring !
Make sure that Nest isn't running it 24/7.
  • Gas is always cheaper than leccy to feed, but wet gas/underfloor is exotic and high capital cost+. Pipes/wall runs/annual service/manifold& mixing pump to 60C/G2W/G2A/RHi is a black art to me. Best of luck

    Two lessons to learn here.

    1. Always submit your own meter readings. Never rely on estimated Bill's. Get into the habit of submitting monthly readings.

    2. Always check your on the cheapest possible tariff. You are paying an extortionate amount per kWh.

If you keep an eye on your account online and submit regular meter readings you can check if your monthly payments are covering your usage and wont get any nasty catch up Bill's.

Thanks everyone. Ill try shut everything off and go watch the meter and feed back. It's definitaly only supplying me.
I only have 6 rads with TRVs. and one UFH manifold. The UFH is on its own thermostat which is set to come on for two hours in the morning and back on again before I get home from work and off at around 9.

What times & temperature are set for Hot Water. Your consumption over 5 winter months is maybe a bit high for that size place. What's insulation like?  Double glazed?

What temperature is your heating set too?

    How old is the house?

How well insulated is the house?

There are so many variables that no two energy Bill's will ever be the same.

We are in a 3 bed detached house but it is a super insulated new build and our gas usage is set to be 6000kWh per year plus 2000kWh of electric.

Try to take several daily readings say for a week, last thing at night after the boiler has closed down and first thing in the morning before it fires up again.  See whether there's any strange pattern, e.g. unexplained overnight usage, normal usage when you're away, etc.

Heating and hot water set to max. Its a hot water on demand boiler rather than water tank.
Double glazing throughout. 150mm kingspan roof insulation in the new part of the house that has UFH. 50mm kingspan in foof of old house.. Old house is rubble filled stone walls (no cavity)
Heating thermostats set to 18 degrees on the timer.
